I've been an avid reader since I have memory. From very little I read anything that came into my path, independently of the theme and recommended age. This was incentivised by the unreasonable speeds at which I read. Even then, eventually I ended up leaning towards fantasy and science fiction books and it has been my favourite genre since then.
Although I usually read shorter books and series, as is usual for an 10 years old boy, one day I was left alone at my aunt's house and I found in her shelves "The Endless Story". I immediately got hooked and finished it entirely in that day. Since then I delved even deeper into fantasy and big complex sagas. I started reading epic fantasy, role books, etc.
Since then I've read more than 600 books and tried every genre I saw, but ended up back in fantasy. There is just something special about traveling to a new world created entirely from one person's imagination.
Although in recent years I've been reading less than what I would have liked, I still like to maintain a "healthy" quantity of books. If you would like to take a look into my recent reads, or perhaps pick a book from my best books list don't hesitate to head into my Goodreads account: Stephan Charles Nielson | Goodreads
Recently I've been channelling my reader's mind full of ideas into writing. Who knows if it will ever end up in anything, but meanwhile it's a hobby as fun as reading, and I plan to keep writing even if I never release anything. To know more about my writing projects procede to the next section.
I have been writing and ideating since 2019. It started from a dream that I liked so much I couldn't help but refine and expand. This was the inspiration for my novel Beyond Light, which I haven't released yet.
I didn't actually write anything so to speak until august 2022, when I created the prologue. Until then I just though about it, made extensive notes, created characters, imagined plots and generally expanded the world until it was worth of a book. Unfortunately work and university made it imposible to write actively, so from then until September 2023 I only wrote 5 more chapters. The good thing is that I had plenty of time to keep on iterating my ideas and at that point I had completely defined characters with personal development arcs and the general plot for the first 7 books. Hopefully this allows me to write quicker now that I have more free time.
Apart from my work on Beyond light I released a short novel called Metal Dreams in September 2022, just after finishing the prologue to Beyond Light.
This is my first published book, if you consider a short novel a book. It originated from a Flash-fiction exercise I was doing from a Brandon Sanderson video. I ended up liking the concept of my Flash-fiction, even though it was only 150 words. So I decided to expand on it and raise it to 1500 words.
There were three reasons for this:
1- I wanted to try to expand upon a concept into a story.
2- I used this opportunity to try writing in a diferente point of view as in the main book I was writing.
3- I didn't know anything about publishing, so this was the perfect opportunity to give it a try.
Don't expect anything incredible, but I'm still proud of this novel and will keep it as a posible source to create a book series based on it's universe. If you want to check it out, search for Metal Dreams in any amazon store. Here is the Spanish Amazon Link: Metal Dreams (English Edition) eBook: Stephan
(I think it's pretty obvious looking how bad it is, but I also drew the cover. I wanted to do all by myself, a mistake I will not make with Beyond Light)
